One of our aims is to make sure that all of the positive youth news stories from Haringey get press coverage. This doesn’t just mean the press write the stories, but the schools and youth organisations in the borough have to supply the stories too.
We realised that the press and many of the people who work with young people or in the community have never met and not even friends! So we decided to hold an event on the 25th June 2013 and invite them to meet each other!!
Over 50 organisations and schools turned up to meet reporters from Ham & High, Haringey Independent, Tottenham Journal and The Voice.
At our event, we (Joe 16 and Leandra 20) facilitated a few exercises to get the group to think about why they should send in press releases. We then shared some secrets about how to work with the press and then we introduced them to the reporters. They had the opportunity to have a group ‘speed date’ so that the reporters could meet them. Then the community groups had the opportunity to have a question and answer session with the reporters.
Thank you to:
Sally from People’s World Carnival Band for letting us use your hall.
Fitzroy, the CEO of HAVCO for supporting the event
The reporters Robert Collins; Elizabeth Pears, Jaber Mohamed and Stephen Moore for coming.
