Youth dance groups from schools across London will attend a round of auditions for a chance to perform at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in July. Forty groups representing nineteen London Boroughs will be given half an hour to show they have the promise, motivation and commitment to perform on the prestigious Sadler’s Wells stage.
Young dancers, who all receive dance education from the Step into Dance programme, will be hoping to impress in order to gain a spot performing at Step LIVE! 2014 taking place at Sadler’s Wells on Saturday 5th July. The students, all aged from 11 to 18 and from both mainstream and SEN schools, have received specialist dance training in a number of dance styles and were selected to audition after a series of London Borough Events.
Fortismere School and Parkview Academy are two of the groups hoping to grab a spot. At the Borough Events, Fortismere impressed with a slick contemporary piece and Parkview stood out with their virus-inspired street piece
The auditions will take place between Monday 2nd and Friday 9th June at various venues across London including Rambert Studios and the Royal Academy of Dance. Step LIVE! is the annual showcase from Step into Dance, involving over 400 dancers from the programme. It is the culmination of a year of hard work and a fantastic opportunity for young dancers to take to such a big stage.
Watching closely at the auditions will be Sue Goodman, Step into Dance Artistic and Programme Director, “Choosing pieces for Step LIVE! gets increasingly difficult every year. The auditions are there give value to the process and performance by testing the commitment of the dancers”.
